Ben Lujan Tournament Tips Off Today
Thursday marks the beginning of the 21st Girls’ Ben Lujan Tournament and the 13th Boys’ Tournament.
This year’s annual Ben Lujan Tournament has eight high quality teams competing in the Girls’ Tournament and eight in the Boys’. The tournaments run from December 20-22.
Santa Fe Indian School is the odds on favorite to win the Girls’ Tournament with Taos and the Elks expected to meet in the Boys’ championship game.
The eight girls’ teams are: Pojoaque, Penasco, Mesa Vista, Taos, Raton, Santa Fe Indian School, Socorro and Espanola.
The Elkettes play Penasco at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday in their opening round game.
On the boys’ side the eight teams are: Pojoaque, Penasco, Mesa Vista, Socorro, Raton, Laguna, SFIS and Taos.
The Elks first round opponent is Penasco at 7:p.m. Thursday.
There will be mixed emotions at this years’ tournaments as the valley grieves the death of Ben Lujan. Condolences to the family. Mr. Lujan’s life was a life of family and community service. He made major contributions to Pojoaque Valley and he will be missed by the many people he befriended and helped in a variety of ways.
