PVSD School Board Approves New Contract for Delgado

The Pojoaque Valley School District School Board unanimously approved a new three-year contract for Adan Delgado, PVSD Superintndent, that begins on July 1, 2011.

Delgado will earn $102,000 a year, which is the same amount he was awarded on his hiring contract. The contract also gives him a school vehicle.

The contract was approved at the January 26 school board meeting.

It certain seems strange that and agenda item that is listed as a non-action item suddenly ends up as a 3 year extension of a contract. Could it be this was done to beat the election of new board members. Seems to me this evaluation is usually done in March. Why the big rush ? Was someone afraid the new board member might not wish to renew this contract for even a year say nothing of 3 years ?

The Pojoaque Valley School Board of Education will convene in to Executive Session immediately following the approval of the agenda to discuss Limited Personnel Matters – Evaluation of the Superintendent as allowed by Open Meetings Act – section 10-15-1(H)(2). No action will be taken.

Something does not seem right. I do not agree with the Board’s decision to extend the Superintendent’s contract.
