The West Las Vegas Lady Dons came into Ben Lujan Gymnasium Thursday night with a winless, 0-2, District2AAA record, while the Elkettes were 3-0 .

West Las Vegas didn’t play like cellar dwellers and Pojoaque High didn’t play their A, or B-game, but closed out the inspired Lady Dons at the end of Game 2 and 3 with big kills by Kira Trujillo, Elizabeth Gomez and Dionna Montoya  and went on to win: 25-16, 25-23, 25-22.

Game 2 was knotted at 18 and 22.

At 22-22, Elizabeth Gomez, who banged 7 kills, ripped a K, but the Elkettes’ followed with a service error to make it 23-23. Gomez time again, followed by a Trujillo blast, one of her game high 19 kills, that ended Game 2.

Game 3 mirrored Game 2. Tied at 18-18, the inefficient Elkettes took it up to the notch as Dionna Montoya, 10 kills, and Trujillo stepped up and scored the Elkettes final six points with three kills each.

Pojoaque (12-1,4-0) travels to Raton on Saturday.  Raton is (10-2,2-0) with wins over West and St. Michaels.

John, FYI, the wellness center is awarding an Athlete of the week award for our kids. Might be something for you to have. Lock
