Boxed Out At The Post Office
The government can put a man on the moon but putting a permanent Post Office in Pojoaque is, apparently, a problem.
With winter around the corner, Pojoaque box-holders are wondering if they’ll be waiting in the snow and cold for their mail.
A call to Ruben Romero, Santa Fe postmaster, at 988-2239 was not returned. Maybe leaving a message with his secretary that the inquiry came from PojoaqueNews.com didn’t carry much weight. I sure it didn’t.
We’d like to get input from the community. Does anyone out there know when and where Pojoaque will get a post office that doesn’t disappear every evening.
Of course, we’ll continue to inquire. But what’s with the secrecy. It seems the Post Office’s public relations staff would let us know what’s going on just to keep us pacified.
As we’re trying to be a community based journal with community journalists helping out by writing and investigating stories, we’d like to hear from readers who might know more than we know, which is very little at this point.
We’ll continue to investigate. Hopefully, the answer, as Dylan says, “Is blowing in the wind.”

Since the postal service is a Federal entity, I would highly encourange all Pojoaque Valley residents call or write to Congressman Tom Udall’s (Disctrict 3) district office immediately.
Here is his district office information:
Honorable Tom Udall
811 St. Michael’s Drive, Suite 104
Santa Fe, NM 87505
(505) 984-8950 Phone
(505) 986-5047 Fax
More than likely, you will get a response from his office.

To Ben’s info above, I add that you can also contact your federal reps through their websites — and faster. Senators Bingaman and Udall both have excellent response records using their online systems. Congressman Lujan also has an online response form; even one tailored specifically for help with federal agencies! Seems ideal for this purpose.
Here are their web pages for contacts:
Sen. Jeff Bingaman

Sen. Tom Udall

Congressman Ben Lujan

If even a half dozen Pojoaque residents hit this issue, I can almost guarantee that you all will get favorable action.
Good luck-
