Olivia Arellano Named Boys & Girls Club Jr. Youth of the Year

Olivia Arellano, age 13, was selected as the Jr. Youth of the Year for the Pueblo of Pojoaque Boys & Girls Club at the Annual Banquet held at the Cities of Gold Hotel Conference Center.

The Youth of the Year Program, which is administered by Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) and sponsored by Tupperware Brands Corporation, celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments. These deserving young people are recognized for service to their Club and community, academic performance and contributions to their family.

Olivia, the daughter of James Arellano & Joann Ortiz, is an 8th grader at Pojoaque Middle School where she has a 3.9 GPA.  Olivia has participated in many programs at the Club such as, Money Matters, Career Launch, Fine Art Program, Computer Technology Program, Digital Arts Program, MIRACLES Academy, and serves as President of the Torch Club. 

“Olivia is very active in many diverse programs at the Club.  She has strong leadership capabilities and is always looking at ways to increase her position at the Club.  With her strong will she will succeed with anything she sets her mind to do in the future”, said Donald R. Christy, Executive Director, Pueblo of Pojoaque Boys & Girls Club.

Olivia received a large plaque from the Club, $500.00 in cash, and an iPad, donated by the Boys & Girls Club.  She will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members for the New Mexico Jr. Youth of the Year title in Truth or Consequences, N.M., on March 16, 2012.

Congratulations Olivia!!!

You did great that night and are very deserving of the title. Now just set your mind to State Youth of the Year. Im sure that with determination, confidence and happiness you will do great. Well get ready cause in just a couple of weeks we will be in T or C. Hopefully we will do the the club and Pojoaque Valley proud by bringing home state and if we dont that’s still ok. I know you’ll do great!
