What a wonderful summer for bird watching! This spring we had the night Heron and the Great Tailed Grackle show up in our Nambe neighborhood. There were 3 adult night Herons that showed up and built a nest in Joe Vigil's huge pine tree. As the summer went on, there were at least 6 baby Heron's that hatched and eventually flew away. The other unusual bird to show up was the great tailed grackle, basically a blackbird with a very long tail. The grackle has a very distinctive whistle/song that the males sing and are very loud. Check out this website for more on the grackle: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Great-tailed_Grackle/id
