Hope Christian Sweeps Elks in a District Doubleheader
Pojoaque Valley head baseball coach reported the following in a Monday e-mai.
Hope Christian took two from the Elks on Saturday afternoon with a 12-0 win in the first game and a 8-0 victory in the second game.
Ryan Wolf pitched a good game in the opener. The score was 1-0 through five innings. We had a few errors and they hit the ball. We played close to them and St. Mikes and they are 1 and 2 in the state. Our bats have gone dormant but we will get them going soon.
In the nightcap, Aaron Archuleta pitched a good game as well but we’re not going to win many games if we don’t score runs. We’re competing we just need to clean up some mental mistakes and will be ok.
The game experience these kids from Albuquerque have over us is priceless. These kids play close to 100 games a year, while our kids are lucky if they play 40. I will give you an example; I was at the Grand opening of Dicks Sporting Goods. I bet there were 100 little guys in baseball uniforms either coming from a game or going to one and I haven’t even seen one little guy in baseball stuff in Pojoaque.
Hopefully we can get the youth of Pojoaque interested in baseball. It’s the best opportunity for our athletes to play the next level if they choose to.
The Elks (10-5, 2-3) host Sandia Prep on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
